Study Tour Safety Ratios & Curriculum Design: A Checklist for Schools and Overseas Institutions
The point of a study tour is not to have "been there" but to have learned and returned safely. Here is a working checklist on staffing ratios, child-safe tools, curriculum alignment and parent communication.
Staffing: no less than 1:12 for primary and 1:15 for secondary, plus a separate safety officer and on-team medic; accident insurance for all, with first-aid kits and emergency contact sheets on every vehicle.
Child-safe tools: farming and craft sessions use child-safe implements, with mentors handling sharp or hot steps; bases run closed management with roll-call at entry and exit.
Curriculum alignment: map learning objectives to every segment before departure, with bilingual workbooks and pre/post tests so students leave with questions and return with outcomes.
Parent communication: send kit lists and restriction forms in advance, push photo updates at milestones, and deliver a learning outcomes report afterwards. All four are standard in XIANRUAN study programmes.
